Southeastern Turkey formerly was known as North-Mesopotamia. The northern part is rather mountainous while in The South are the fertile plains of the Euphrates and the Tigris.
It’s a paradise for archeology buffs. Everywhere in the flat landscape of the plains you will find prehistoric settlement hills (tepe’s in Turkish, tell’s in Arabic), most of the still unexplored.
