Every year thousands of pilgrims visit Mevlana’s shrine. With the establishment of the modern republic of Turkey the sufi sects were surpressed. That’s why you won’t find Mevlana’s tomb in a mosk anymore but in a mosk turned museum.  The main difference with a mosk is that women don’t need to wear a scarf and instead of pulling off your shoes the guardians offer you cheap plastic covers for them. This been said, the shrine is still an impressive place and one of the reminders of the very tolerant Sufi tradition in Islam.
