Captain Proton.... or other...

So we watched the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and to be quite frank, well the movie itself sucked so much that it would leave a hickey... but, I still liked it. Mostly because of Angelina Jolie naturally, but also because I like computer graphics, old futuristic movies and I also liked the athmosphere of the movie. Thing is, people who don't like old science fiction movies, will definately not liek this one. Sky Captian and the World of Tomorrow is supposed to be cheesy and "softwashed" like those movies from the 30s and 40s. The acting was overdone and the story was just the same, quite predictable and... well just like in them old movies. So I can see how noone of you liked it since you have to be a fan of the genre to appreciate it. I read up on some of the interviews of its directors and writers, and they say that the fact that the mainstream public does not like this movie because of those nostalgic elements just proves to them that they did it well. So I don't know. Once day I want to buy the movie on DVD, when I can find it on sale somewhere =)

Also, I finished Sarah Waters' "Fingersmith" yesterday. After watching the BBC mini-series I just had to read the book, and well, I finished in 2,5 days, which for me, is a stunt! It's even worse than the movie... not bad-worse, but horrible things happen-worse... like it's so horrible how they love each other but never say it... I just wanted to scream at the book "Tell her, goddammit, tell her!!!!" oh well, at least it has a happy end, and I already knew how it was going to end. Great book! Great movie!
