HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Mr. Cocker HCAW defeated Konica Minolta Pioniers 5-2 in Game Five on Tuesday-evening to win their best-of-five Play-Offs and return to the all-deciding Holland Series against reigning champion DOOR Neptunus. The Holland Series opens next Saturday in Rotterdam. All games of the Holland Series can be followed on this site, as Live Play-by-Plays will be available.

Pioniers failed to hold onto an early 2-1 lead, as HCAW came alongside in the fifth, took the lead in the seventh and decided the game in the eighth.
In the first inning, HCAW opened the score when Ralph Milliard led off with a bunt-single, advanced on a throwing error, moved to third on a grounder and scored on a grounder by Sidney de Jong.
Pioniers answered with two runs in the home first off of starter Jurjen van Zijl, who gave up four hits in the at bat. After Michael Duursma and Mark Duursma led off with singles and advanced on a passed ball, Dè Flanegin was walked intentionally. HCAW appeared to come out of the inning when Glenn Romney lined into a double play, but then RBI-singles by Glennsig Polonius and Edwin de Graaf gave Pioniers a 2-1 lead.

HCAW came alongside in the fifth when Rodney Michel (who went 3-for-3) singled with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Ralph Milliard.
Pionier-starter Richard Orman then recovered and struckout four batters in a row, but walked lead-off batter Ronald Jaarsma in the seventh. After Jaarsma advanced on a sac-bunt, Orman was relieved by David Bergman, whose first delivery was a wild pitch, enabling Jaarsma to reach third base. Next, Rodney Michel hit a sac-fly to give HCAW a 3-2 lead.

In the eighth inning, Pioniers' three national team-pitchers were unable to stop HCAW's comeback.
Bergman gave up an one-out single to Gino Henson and was replaced by Roger Kops, who was greeted with a single by Sidney de Jong, then gave up an RBI-single to Bas de Jong.
Kops was relieved by Dave Draijer, who saw Jurjan Koenen hit into a force play, by another run was scored on the play.
In the ninth inning, HCAW again threatened to score, but a basesloaded force play was made at the plate and the team stranded three runners.

Pioniers didn't add more runs after scoring twice in the first inning.
HCAW-starter Jurjen van Zijl retired eleven out of twelve batters from the first through the fifth inning, then was helped by his defense in the sixth.
He hit lead-off batter Dè Flanegin with a pitch, who was forced out on a fielder's choice grounder by Glenn Romney, but then the bases were loaded when Glennsig Polonius doubled and Edwin de Graaf was walked intentionally.
Van Zijl was relieved by Jeroen Hubert, who saw former HCAW-player Lars Koehorst hit into a 5-2-3 double play on his fourth pitch. That was all Hubert pitched, but he became the winning pitcher, as his teammates broke the 2-2 tie moments later.
Nick Stuifbergen pitched the last three innings for HCAW, gave up only one basehit and earned a save.
