Caspian Gull L. cachinnans

This first-summer Caspian Gull was photographed on 12th August 2000 on the VAM rubbish dump near Wijster in the Netherlands. Compare this bird to the 2nd winters on this page and this page. It's moulting its scapulars, most of its lesser coverts, primaries and tailfeathers (bottom picture).  

 

 

 

 

 

The two outermost primaries (P9 and P10) are still juvenile. P8 is growing, the rest is 2nd generation, as is the outermost secondary (visible in the left wing).
