Haruki Murakami - Norwegian Wood
Though this was a good book, it was also very depressing and I'm not sure I would recommend reading it to anyone. What I liked about it was that it was Japanese in many ways, but it was about normal every day type people leading a normal every day type life, yet with that odd twist of Japanese culture mixed in. And the obligatory many many suicides. I think all but two of the main characters committed suicide. Go figure.
