Since I noticed quite a lot of interest from abroad today (1-3-2004) I have added this English text to accommodate the non-Dutch-speaking people who visit this site. All the aspects described below are discussed on the Dutch spoken Pocket PC forum to which the links in the Dutch text refer.

Last Sunday the 29th of Februari I visited a shop in Amsterdam where a demonstration was given of the soon to be released TomTom Navigator version 3. There I managed to 'score' the screendumps shown below of the Dutch version of this software. Current users of TomTom Navigator 2 will recognise most of it from the layout of the screens and will be able to get the gist of the new screens. The changes from the previous version do not seem to be all that impressive. One is the addition of the 'Major Roads Of Europe' chart which will give you the opportunity to navigate accross borders. You will still have to change to a local detail-map to navigate to your destination at street-level though. Also a new screen is included which for the moment I will translate from 'Reisplan' to 'Itinerary' in which you can plan a route via waypoints. You can store and load these routes, change the order of the waypoints and you can temporarily disable these waypoints in a route. Furthermore some cosmetic changes can be seen (the 3d icons) and updated charts will be used. Apparently still no street-to-street cross-border navigation and no TMC. The general opinion in the Dutch forum is that people are not hugely impressed to say the least. The zip-file at the bottom of this page contains all the screenshots (with a few duplicates I didn't bother to take out) and three photo's of the box TTN3 will be sold in with the text in Dutch and in French (only on the rearside-photo). Since the photo's are cropped from 4 Megapixel photo's I didn't place them on this page because of their size. When viewed with some imageviewer you can zoom in to read the text on the box.

Onderaan deze pagina staat een gezipt bestand met 40 screendumps van TomTom Navigator versie 3 die over enige tijd verschijnt (eigenlijk 36 want er zitten vier dubbele tussen - heb ze er maar in laten zitten).

Ik heb hierover een posting geplaatst in deze thread op het forum van de Pocket PC-Club Site.

Ik heb de screendumps uiteindelijk toch maar even hier op de pagina gezet. (Kon het toch niet laten).

Vanwege de grootte van de foto's (uitsnedes uit 4 Megapixelfoto's - wat extra gecomprimeerd i.v.m. de bestandsgrootte) heb ik die hier niet neergezet. Die zitten in het bestand. Die kun je beter met je favoriete fotoview/edit software bekijken. Bijv. Irfanview. Dan kun je ver genoeg inzoomen om de tekst te kunnen lezen.
