Rosalbina Caradori was born in Milan as the daughter of the Alsatian Baron de Munck. Her mother, whose maiden name was Caridori, came from St Petersburg. She showed musical talent and after her father's death she started a professional career. After touring in France and Germany she debuted on 12 January 1822 at Covent Garden as Cherubino in "La Nozze di Figaro". She sang at Covent Garden from 1822 to 1827. On 21 March 1825 she sang the soprano solo at the British premiere of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9". In 1827 she married Edward Thomas Allan, the secretary of the King's Theatre. In 1830 she appeared in Venice where she created the part of Giulietta in Bellini's "I Capuleti e i Montecchi". In 1834 returned to Italian Opera in London and from 1835 she performed mainly in England. In 1836 she appeared with Malibran at the Winchester Festival and in October 1837 she sang at the Park Theatre in New York. Later in her career she concentrated on oratorio and concert singing. In 1848 she retired but appeared once more at the opening of the Great Exhibition on 1 May 1851. She died in 1865. | 11/3/1830 | Premiere of Bellini's "I Capuleti e i Montecchi" at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The libretto was written by Felice Romani. The part of Giuletta was sung by Rosalbina Caradori-Allan and Giuditta Grisi sang the part of Romeo.
