She became close friends with Goethe's daughter-in-law Ottilie.

In 1828 she moved to Bonn with her mother. There she became friends with Sibylle Mertens-Schaaffhausen, who was her lover, and Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. After her mother died she published her legacy.

Adele suffered from health problems and from 1844 onwards she mainly lived in Italy. In 1849 she returned to Germany. She was very ill now and was taken care of by Sibylle Mertens-Schaaffhausen until she died on August 25th. She was the author of fairytales, poems, novels and diaries.
