Jean-Baptiste Meunier studied with Camalatta and Vanderhaert. He received a commission to copy several works of the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence. In Brussels he painted portraits of many of his contemporaries and he was a teacher at the École des Arts Industriels et Décoratifs.

His work can be found in museums in Antwerp and Brussels. Constantin Meunier was his brother.
