Subject: More publicity by donating to OpenSSH project Dear , We use OpenSSH for server management on a daily basis. I can even say that our core business it totally dependant on this software, of which there is no viable alternative. OpenSSH is "Free Software", its usage does not constitute restrictive licences. We can do anything we want with the software and charge our clients without breaking laws, bending rules or violating patents. Developing and improving OpenSSH costs money. There are a lot of people who contribute time, money and/or hardware to secure the progression of the project. I am one of those people who donates on a regular basis, my name is amongst the others at http://www.openbsd.org/donations.html#people . The finances for the OpenSSH project are coming from OpenBSD, the parent project. There are a lot of companies, like , which use OpenSSH on a daily basis to generate profits, like Cisco, Sun, SGI, HP, IBM and Siemens. None of these companies does something in return. I hereby would like to request to make a donation to the OpenBSD project, to support the development of OpenSSH and to morally justify the usage of this software within the company. There are several advantages to this, of course; The name and a URL to our website will be added to the donations page. This will give our company more web presence and publicity. It will send out a signal that we want to be involved in the community and that we want to reach out to OpenSSH. Within our corporation, this will be seen as a generous gesture to the community and will be met with a positive response. Furthermore, we can state that we support projects like OpenSSH financially and put a link to the project on our corporate website. A one-time donation to the project would be highly regarded by the project members as well as by me. However, it would be wonderful to donate a certain amount of money every quarter or every year, this would be of great benefit to the OpenSSH project. Even if this amount is only 1 USD per server that we administer. I cannot vouch for my colleagues of course, however, I know I am not the only one who feels this way. With kind regards,
