an actor's dilemma

An actor in disguise.
---------------------

It is a tremendously intense experience, an overturning
When you take the place of another, relating to non-existent friends
And to virtual surroundings and circumstance.

The better you portray the image and his feelings
The more elevated, attached and yet isolated you feel
And also the more unstable, schizophrenic!

But eventually you return - to relative normality, awaiting
The next invitation. Oh!, Elvira, you were marvelous:
You showed me more of myself than I ever knew.

Such realisation is disturbing, for it forms the basis
Of uncomfortable questions, of inaccessible dreams
Which can only be discarded in a sensible state.

The character is transparent, mere imagination,
The dilemma is real!
