Reconstruction of a coal swamp

Reconstruction of a swamp with horsetail trees
in the Upper-Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian)

Untill some years ago the Northern Zoo in Emmen (The Netherlands)
has housed this beautiful reconstruction in the Biochron.
There are several types of Calamites trees. The type in the picture
is called Stylocalamites, which had only few branches.
The drawing on the preceding page represents a tree of the
subgenus Diplocalamites.
