Coin Description Arcadius, AE 19mm width 17mm height, Grade ??, The coin is struck off-centre causing the top of the legend to be missing. The coin is very worn down causing all raised detail and the legend to be almost worn away. VM 35
Obverse The portrait is of Arcadius a diademed and draped bust facing right. The legend reads DN ARCADIVS PF AVG meaning: DN (Dominus Noster /our lord showing the emperor to be the supreme ruler) ARCADIVS (his name) PF (Pius Felix / Dutiful and Wise) AVG Augustus which defines him as the emperor. The legend is broken which is a sign of the highest respect and signifies him as the senior Augustus.
Reverse The emperor standing facing right holding a spear and a shield and he's being crowned by Victory. The legend reads VIRTVS EXERCITI which translates as "Virtue of the Army".
Mint The exergue reads SMNA meaning SM (Sacred Moneta / Sacred Money) N (for Nicomedia) and A stands for the first workshop of Nicomedia (Alpha).
