The Voice of the Night Book Review

I read a novel by Dean Koontz entitled The Voice of the Night. Dean Koontz is an unquestionably wonderful author. He usually delivers intense, engaging, thrilling pieces of literature. Although he has written several magnificent horror stories, this is far from his greatest work. Meaning The Voice of the Night is not one of his better books. It's actually the worst I've read. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate this book a 5 because it's only half as good as it should have been. The major reason for my dissatisfaction is that the overall novel was incredibly vapid. In the beginning of the story Koontz gives gratuitous information about the characters' hobbies. The entire first part of the book was far too long. It picked up speed and became interesting long enough to regain my attention in the middle. Unfortunately, it quickly became boring again. The second reason I didn't like the book was because of the ending. You are left with copious questions and a pathetic excuse for an ending. The conclusion brings no closure. Although the novel was mostly dull, Koontz used a great deal of detail, which in turn produced vivid images. If you liked Koontz's other work such as Intensity, Sole Survivor, or A Door To December I would suggest you skip reading this novel. You will save yourself the disappointment of Dean Koontz failing to deliver his usual best. - an Amazon customer review
