Astro software

These are a few programs I have developed for my astronomy hobby. Making and using them was primarily intended for my own pleasure but if you think there's something worthwhile here. Serve yourself.

Moovastar

Using the Bright Star Catalogue and the proper motion of the stars the program simulates star positions in the future and past. The Bright Star Catalogue contains stars up to magnitude 6.5. You can choose a region of the sky, set the limiting magnitude and set a time sequence (time step, number of steps, and step interval). The program will simulate the motion of the stars. There's a clear help function included. New version with updated print function!!!

Download Moovastar setup (149 KB).

If the program doesn't run you probably need to install some Visual Basic 6 support files (1043 KB) on your computer.

Resolution

Calculates the focal plane image diameter of an object given its angular size in arcseconds and the focal length of the telescope. Resolution can also calculate either arcseconds, distance or separation given two out of three parameters.

Download Resolution setup (37 KB).

If the program doesn't run you probably need to install some Visual Basic 6 support files (1043 KB) on your computer.

Aview

Plays avi's. Do you want to quickly view an avi-file without starting up the obese Mediaplayer? Link the .avi extension to the Aview program from your Windows explorer. You can now directly play an avi by double-clicking it. The program exits when the avi ends.

Download Aview.exe (20 KB).

If the program doesn't run you probably need to install some Visual Basic 6 support files (1043 KB) on your computer.

Jupsat screensaver

See jupiter and saturn bounce around the screen. The images where made by Bob Hogeveen and me on march 16, 2003 with a C11, 2x Barlow, Philips ToUcam Pro in the primary focus. Registax was used to stack images from the recorded avi files.

Download Jupsat.scr (96 KB).

If the screensaver doesn't run you probably need to install some Visual Basic 6 support files (1043 KB) on your computer.

Deep sky and double star database

Access database containing the Saguaro Astronomy Club Double Star and Deep Sky Database with more than 10000 objects each. The database features extensive sort and filtering functionality. It has a new reporting function allowing you to make custom deep sky reports setting your own filter criteria like: magnitude, one or more constellations, one or more object types, declination range, favorable placing near the meridian at 00:00hrs local time at the first of the month or any combination of these.

Download Access 2000 database program (1190 KB). Microsoft Access must be installed on your computer!!
