Humphrey DeForest Bogart
born 25 December 1899 - died 14 January 1957

Born in New York City, he had his first acting job in 1920, after some time in the U.S. Navy, at a theater company. He played some small stage and film roles and was in 1934 successful in the play The Petrified Forest in which he played an escaped prisoner. In 1936, the movie version of The Petrified Forest came out, in which Bogart had his brake trough as a film actor. He got a contract at Warner Bros. A large number of film roles followed, among the one of nightclub owner Rick Blaine in the film Casablanca. Bogart made some 80 movies, was married 4 times and received several oscar awards. His most successful films were High Sierra and The Maltese Falcon (1941), Casablanca (1943), Key Largo (1948), The African Queen (1951) and The Caine Mutiny (1954). Bogart died in 1957 in his sleep, at home in Hollywood.
