Charlie Chaplin - Geocache GCT3JD

Charles Spencer Chaplin
born 16 April 1889 - died 25 December 1977

Charles Chaplin was born in London. Already at the age of 10 he played comic roles and acted in a "klompendans"- act. During a tour in the United States he was offered a contract by the Keystone film Company, where he made his first movie in 1914. In 1919, he set up United Artists and made a lot of films. On his way to London for the world première of Limelight (1952), his authorisation to return to the United States was withdrawn, because of Chaplins political-thoughts and his "standards and values". Charles than moved to Switzerland and did not return to the United States until 1972, to receive a special oscar award. He was knighted (1975) in London by Queen Elisabeth II. Sir Charles Chaplin died at the age of 88, at home in Switzerland.
