Flybert 1-6-99 Other Notes to Matilda.exe Supplied is 1Mat.pal a *valid* version of 1.pal The palette color choise screen in Matilda is not representative of the .pal file you load , and takes the .pal loaded , and mirrors and rotates it's palette index # positions *underneath* the display , yet does not actually change any palette index #s. The 1MatPal.bmp shows the position of the colors relative to the Matilda palette display for 1Mat.pal and has 1Mat.pal loaded on so in a good paint program , you can display the 8-bit palette in it's normal order and orientation. You'll see a number in parenthesis '(xxx)' next to a 'PALETTE' material this is the palette color index# of these *hardcoded* parts such as the pilot head/shoulders (always 'XXPALETTE[217]) , struts, guns , and solid fuselage bottoms ...There is sometimes other PALETTE material listings , such as a second set of struts desinated a different solid color(Dr1)... there is usually 2 listings , 'XXPALETTE[18]' and XXPALETTE[20] .. not sure of thier purpose , but index #18(red) and #20(yellow) are 'fire' colors and this material may appear behind fire graphics on the exterior of the plane. I was not able to make the PALETTE material 'smooth' shade with the color showing (only pure white) , which would be an improvement over 'FLAT' but I may have done something out of order . Please try to enable smooth shading for these PALETTE materials and let me know if you are successful ..
