PolderBackup is one of the best little utilities I have ever come across, working easily and reliably without unnecessary frills. Thank you for all your work in producing it. I am sorry to hear that you won't be developing or supporting it further, but I appreciate how time-consuming this can be, especially if some users don't bother to read the manual!

Thank you for the work you put into this. Every time I use it another "thankyou" hits the Ether, I hope all the positive vibes influence your life for the better. Youve done your share to help others.

I use this excellent, simple program to do ALL of my data backups. Much safer than progs that create a single, proprietary file. Polder saves much time because it only copies new files -- but it can also delete old files on the destination. Very robust -- will handle 1000's of files when other utils choke. Simple and easy to use but more flexible than many backup programs and sync utils. Thank you for the great program!

Simply, thank you. I'm not very able in using this strange thing (my computer)and I find this space just today, trying to make my second backup after 2003 on it. This program is very useful for people like me who won't ever buy something that probably can't manage to use, but are conscious that if it works is VERY useful! Next time I promise I will try to understand how to send money to pets. Ciao Ernesto

Congratulations for a very nice piece of program; easy to use and straight to the job. I am not sorry about your vacation: There is not much left on the wishlist, so it's a good time to let it rest on the drawer for a while. Thanks a lot.

Programmer's temptation: would you like it translated? If you have a separate message file I could translate it for you. I do a lot of this for linux but I don't remember how Delphi works on this respect. gustl@uol.com.br

Just a thank-you. This is a great little program that I used a little here and there. (I stopped using it mostly because I went to imaging for my backups). None of that accurately reflects that you did a great job with this prog...it does everything I would expect it to, and it does it well! I especially liked the fact that it saves to multiple zips instead of one gigantic zip. Bravo! I am downloading the last version in case I should have need again in the future as this is the best I have found in it's class (even competing with paid programming).

Sorry so many users can't read and turned it into work for you instead of fun. Best wishes in your future projects. Merry Christmas and God bless you!

At last, i find a backup utility that dont make only one zip file. The best for security. A suggest: To copy the backup files to CDW, sometimes, i have problems because the path is to much long. If the program will make only one zip file if the depth of directories are more long that 8 ,ISO9960,Polder will be the best. Thanks.

Thank you for PolderBackup. Whenever anyone asks what backup utility they should use I always refer them to yours. Simple, efficient, straightforward, and most importantly backs up to actual files that people understand rather than wierd compressed .bku files (or whatever) that can't be recovered without proprietary software. I use it every week to back up my personal system, and I use it for one-time transferrings of large directory structures.

Top notch! I'm glad to have this in my toolbelt.

Brilliant - after searching for ages, I was thinking of writing my own utility.

Polder backup does exactly what I would have written.

the only thing I would improve is to have an option to combine small groups of files into one zip file. I backup a lot of small files, and this would reduce slack on the disk I am backing up to by utilisng the clusters more effectively.

Seemed to work to the A drive. It would not use the disk more than once though. Even though the file was compressed to only 2 or 3% of the capacity of the disk, when backing up another file (a single page of text) to the disk I got a "the disk is full" error. Any ideas?

To Polder: I realize that the c_ on the desktop was my entire C drive. Ploder compressed it to about 4 gigs. I don't have any other drive to back up on, since Polder will not support CD/RW and it would take a long time anyhow. Eventually I hope to back up to a seperate hard drive. At this point I'm just tryinf to teach myself to use it, as I said, it was an experiment. I'll try backing a small file to my A drive and see how it goes...

From: Polderbackup [czaar-peter.xs4all.nl]
Date: Sun Sep 14 01:44:48 2003

Where do you think your desktop is located? Maybe somewhere on the C-drive? And what do you think will happen when you try to backup your entire C-drive on a place on your c-drive? Philosophical question maybe, but you should ask yourself these thinks before you try to secure important things!

I can't figure it out. I chose the desktop for my destination, and what appeared was the little cat icon, and a folder titled c_. Since I backed up the C drive as an experiment, I guess that is what that is. Now, how do I back up incrimentally? the help file says to just double click on the polder icon, but nothing happens and I get a "polder backup has an error and will be shut down". How can I fix this?

It gives me memories:as I was born at Amsterdam, as a child I had to bring little kittens to the Polderweg! So these are not nice memories although it was necessary at that time: at home we had sometimes 8 cats! I do have 4 now - and that is enough- I do not go to these places because I would take all these poor creatures home! although when I sometimes go back to Amsterdam for shopping I pass by the Polderweg; my grandmother lived on the other side of the railway, the 3rd floor so for me it is a special place, a special name and a special memory!

Thank you for the great software and congratulations for the way you provide it!

I like it very much, because it is light, fast and easy to use as an application (not bloated with options and stuff would be annoying) and because it works right and clever! I've suggested it to the team I'm workig in the university and it is the software we use (in a whole win domain). It's great! And one suggestion: Add a simple "help"/"about" to the program. version number, web site, author and that stuff!

Keep up the good work!

Thank you, GC

Beste Gerwin,

Hello: Just tried the program and I love it. I only have one request if it is even possible.

I am using windows xp and have found that when adding files from accross the network to a backup on another machine the program wants to backup the entire file list each time. If you have any suggestions please post them on your website.

This is not a problem as long as the process it totally on one computer only. Just over the network.

Please be assured that even with this little glitch this is still the best backup program I have ever found, espically for the price.

Thanks DC

Finally found backup software that does exactly what I require it to do. After evaluating several backup programs I found it to be the easiest and most user friendly program to use. Does a great job too. The support for compression is a very good feature. Several others, to whom I had recommended this program felt the same way.

Exactly what I was looking for. A simple backup program without all the bells and whistles of scheduled backups and backup wizards. I just wanted to be able to save multiple backup templates so I could backup when I wanted with the click of a button. Great product.

First-class software. It does a vital job quickly, cleanly and well. The only (not very) hard part is building some backup templates to tell Polder B/U what to save and where to save it. Add a shortcut to a template, and it will take you just two clicks to back up everything. Even better, the backup is an ordinary .zip file, so all you need to restore it on any computer is an unzip utility. Thanks and congratulations, Gerwin, for a program that's outstanding in every way.

Hi, just tested Polderbackup. The tool is great thank you.

If you don't mind here are two suggestions: a) enable drag and drop for folders and files to be added to the back up list. If you have a lot of different folders or files to backup using currently provided way of adding them to the list is very tedious (since you not even can select multiple files and folders). b) when you have to backup a lot of files and directories, polderbackup doesn't update the display for several minutes and seems to be crashed. So a progress bar while collecting the information about which files/directories to backup would be nice.

Cheers, Sebastian

Years later this is still the most straightforward, robust, and usable backup software I've tried. I'm currently using it in another windows to move 250 GB of files onto a fresh drive, a tedious task without Polder.

There may be no more active development, but the software is basically perfect. Thanks again! And some of the animal shelters in the area thank you too.
