kallitype prints and pinhole photography
Etretat, l'Invitation au Voyage
A site dedicated to alternative photographic processes (pinhole photography and kallitype printing)
and to everyone who believes that photography may be a kind of philosophy

In Nadeau's Encyclopedia of Printing we can read:
"Kallitype Process (Ger.: Kallitypie) Also spelled Callitype. A printing process patented by Dr. W.W.J. Nicol in 1889. Paper, or other suitable material, coated with a mixture of a ferric salt and silver nitrate."

On this site Philippe Moroux makes voluntarily no difference between the kallitype process and the Vandyke or Van Dyke Process. Van Dyke prints are Kallitype prints. May be the Argyrotype print could also be called a kallitype... Have a try?

Pinhole Camera
A camera working without lens, also called stenopeic camera. In French this camera is called "sténopé" or "chambre sténopé". The characteristics of a pinhole camera is to produce slightly unsharp images with an infinite depth of field. Calculate the opening.

Charles Baudelaire
When I first created this site in 1995, I named it from the well-known poem of Charles Baudelaire: L'Invitation au Voyage. Two years later I discovered a beautiful edition of a translation of this poem: ISBN 0-8212-2398-4. Read the poem.

Etretat
I would not speak the truth if I say that Etretat is my birth place. I was born 15 miles from there. But somewhere in my mind this is my birth place. Its monumental arches and needles have been painted by Claude Monet. See my page.
