This course is designed for the Computer Operator or Trainee Programmer/Analyst.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at a basic level, introducing all concepts from scratch.

Objectives

  • This course is designed to make the student comfortable with using the ISPF session.
  • The course shows the student how to navigate around ISPF quickly, how to set up split screens and swap between them, and how to set up PF Keys. The course also covers various ISPF and TSO functions.

Module 1 ISPF Working with Program Function Keys
  • The type of commands that can be assigned to PF Keys.
  • How to change PF Keys settings.
  • The function of the Keylist within ISPF.
  • The use of the PFSHOW Command
  • How to assign ISPF Edit Line Commands to PF Keys.
  • The use of the Locate Command in ISPF Edit.

Module 2 ISPF Navigation
  • How to navigate from one ISPF Menu to another in a single command.
  • How variables are used to load user provided data into ISPF fields.
  • A greater knowledge and hands-on experience of selecting ISPF Utility Menu's.

Module 3 ISPF/TSO Logical Screen Management
  • How to split the screen using the -
  • SPLIT command.
  • SPLIT NEW command.
  • How to swap to a logical screen with the -
  • SWAP command.
  • SWAP [number/screenname] command.
  • SWAP LIST command.
  • How to use the UNDO command.
  • The use of the RECOVERY command.

Module 4 ISPF Miscellaneous Functions
  • How to reset ISPF statistics.
  • How to delete ISPF statistics.
  • Why ISPF statistics are deleted.
  • What ISPF statistics are available.
  • How to search a data set.
  • The options available in the ISPF Search facility.
  • The use of the XMIT and RECEIVE procedure
  • The parameters required for the XMIT command.
