Railway lines opened since 2000, and to be opened

¶ Railway lines and stations opened or reopened to passengers since 2000 including lines newly electrified (ca.270 kilobytes).

Most of the dates are inevitably somewhat (or even a lot) speculative. When a source gives the target date as a year only, it is assumed to be on 31-Dec. When a source gives the target date as "spring" or "summer", it is assumed to be on 30-Jun. Touristical services may be assumed to start on Easter Sunday.
¶ Projects shelved, abandoned, nevermore heard of.

All tables are in a format that can be saved and opened with spreadsheet software, enabling the data to be sorted or printed out differently (in principle). However, compared to the original set-up by Brian Philp, my software is less advanced, and cell formats are not predefined. Thus, the format of date column should be redefined as a date before it can be used in a sort operation.

Countries are in geographical order within each of the (continental) sections, as in Thomas Cook's European timetable and Overseas timetable. They are coded according to ISO 3166 (more info in wikipedia).

The reference column shows the source(s) for the date and other details. These include:

"BLN 999" = a paragraph number in the Branch Line News by the Branch Line Society (for railways in Scotland, England and Wales), issued on a paper-only-for-members-only basis; no new references to BLN will be made
"BLN 999 [1999]" = pre-Rinbad, archived paragraph (for railways elsewhere)
"R.9999" = a paragraph number in the Rinbad, archived newsletter (for railways elsewhere), issued from late 1999 to early 2005
"TR" = Today's Railways (Europe)
"RGI" = Railway Gazette International (news on-line meant if exact date)
"IRJ" = International Railway Journal (news on-line meant if exact date)
"TUT" = Tramways & Urban Transit (news on-line meant if exact date)
Entries for Germany may show the "Land" responsible for financing the (re)opening plans. Likewise the "région" in France.

It is impossible to include all urban rail (metro, light rail, tram) projects worldwide. Those already in the to-be-opened list will be tended, but new ones will only be added at will; refer to UrbanRail.Net, LightRailNow and LRTA. A comparable reluctancy applies to heritage/preserved/tourist lines. Gauge conversions are normally not included.
