Gothic Chess

This page is devoted to Gothic Chess. Gothic Chess is almost like normal chess but with two important differences:

- the board is 10 x 8
- there are 2 extra kind of pieces called the Chancellor (Kanselier) and ArchBishop (Aardsbishop)

The new pieces are almost as strong as a queen. Gothic Chess was invented by Ed Trice and is protected by United States Patent # 6,481,716 issued on November 19, 2002. International Patent Pending. For more information, please visit http://www.GothicChess.org.

Short comparison against normal chess

Because of the stronger pieces the game is a tactical fight after a few opening moves. I think tactical ultra strong chess programs will be strong in Gothic Chess too. Many things in Gothic Chess are not known exactly like openingbook, value of pieces, etc. A must for the pioneer.

TSCPGothic

I made a Gothic Chess program named TSCPGothic. This program is based on:
TSCP (by Tom Kerrigan from USE) for internal structure

For Hashing I have to thank Oliver Brausch from  Germany since I used Olithink 4.11 for this.
For SEE I have to thank Gian-Carlo Pascutto from Belgium since I used Sjeng 11 for this.

With permission of Tom, Gian Garlo, Oliver I hereby release the source code of TSCPGothic.
I wish you good luck with learning from the code and playing against it.

Gothic Chess is patented by Ed Trice. TSCPGothic license is valid until January 10, 2005.

Here are some played games

This games are played by TSCPGothic (Michel Langeveld) against Gothic Vortex (Ed Trice and Gil Dodgen).
