At Huis ter Kleef a clock-shaped turned, massive piece of willow wood was found which was drilled through. In this drill there was a ash core. The top of this clock-shaped object was propped up with an iron ring. Close to this object two pieces of ash wood were found which probably belonged to the stick. This object can be dated to the second halve of the 16th century.
This object appeared to be the (revolving) knob of a hand-drill. The big knob must be seen 180° turned.
With thanks to Mr. Wiard Krook, Archeologie dienst Amsterdam Beheer.
