A Unique Dialogue

The American - Amsterdam componiste-performer Judith Pertz brings her new multimedia musical composition inspired by the moving paintings series of Lieve Dejonghe, "A Unique Dialogue". In this series Lieve combines realistic fine painting of an unusually high quality with powerful images. Members of the public have found the combination of music and images to be a doubly powerful and deepening experience.

In 2006 Pertz will give performances of her new work, "A Unique Dialogue" with the Belgian painter Lieve Dejonghe. Music is surrounds the public via 8 speakers, Pertz adds her live performance while the images of the moving paintings of Lieve Dejonghe are projected:

-- In Ekeren (Hof De Bist), near Antwerpen, in September 2006 See below for details.
-- In Bruge (in the Provinciaal Hof on the market in the center of the city), December 2006 The entire series of paintings will also be shown as part of a solo exhibition. The combination of the performance and the paintings is unusually powerful.

The American-Amsterdam composer-performer Judith Pertz brings, via 8 speakers and live, her compositions, inspired by the painting series "A Unique Dialogue." The paintings will be projected from a beamer during her multimedia presentation. As a member of the audience you will be surrounded by music and art.

You can attend the performances on the following days and times:
  • Saturdays September 2 and 16, 2006
    2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Sundays September 3 and 17, 2006
    11:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The art exhibition will be open:
  • Wednesday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • During the weekends the artist Lieve Dejonghe will be present.

Flutist and voice artist

Judith Pertz (2 maart 1946, USA) has played since 1969 in the USA, United Kingdom, Belgium, France and The Netherlands as a solo artist and in various types of groups -- classical (Amsterdam Conservatorium, 1976); world music (through playing and performing with musicians from various cultures); jazz improvisations (among others: Burton Greene and Trio Pretzel & Comm); music theater solo programma "The Phoenix and the (Intangible) Longing," with flutes and Dutch & Flemish poetry. In 1999 she composed a one hour quadrophonic sound collage called Woman and the Winds using a combination of composed pieces and recordings from her world travels and nature sounds. She has produced thirteen CD's. March 2006 was the premiere of her new work, "A Unique Dialogue." This is a co-production with the Belgian painter, Lieve Dejonghe . Music is projected from eight speakers around the audience, Pertz gives a live performance while Dejonghe's evocative paintings are projected during this multimedia performance. The next performacnes will be held September 2006 in Ekeren, Antwerp and during December 2006 in the center of Brugge.

Judith Pertz has been a teacher for more than thirty years, giving private lessons at home and working as flute, ensemble, pop and improvisation teacher at the Muziekschool Noord in Amsterdam North. She is a member of the KNTV, the union for and of professionel musicians. She leads an ensemble With Music Around the World. In 2006 she started a street music project, for children who have no opportunity to take instumental music lessons.
