SUMMARY

In MS-DOS versions 3.2 through 4.01, the environment size defaults to 160 bytes if you do not specify an environment size in the SHELL= CONFIG.SYS command. It also defaults to 160 bytes if you specify a size smaller than that.

In MS-DOS version 5.0 and later, the default environment size has been increased to 256 bytes; however, the minimum environment has remained 160 bytes.
