What is the 'tallest structure in the world'? (page 3)

But, although perhaps not a building, CN Tower is much taller than the buildings as mentioned before. Then it must be the 'tallest structure in the world' or the 'tallest tower in the world'. No, that appears to be not the case. It looks like CN Tower is by far not the tallest structure in the world! Research indicates that numerous structures are even taller than CN Tower.

How is that possible? Wasn't CN Tower in Toronto the tallest man-made structure in history? No, that is not the case. First of all there is KTHI-TV Tower in North Dakota. With its height of 629 m (2063 ft.) it is by far taller than CN Tower. Furthermore the BROADCAST FAQ LIST by Barry Mishkind claims there are 3 tv-towers in Texas (615 m (2018 ft), 607 m (1992 ft.) and 602 m (1977 ft.) that are all taller than CN Tower. Sources indicate there are communications towers all over the USA and Canada that are probably also taller than CN Tower. By the way; once there was the Warsaw tv-mast. It fell down in 1991, but before that, with 645 m (2115 ft.) it dwarfed any other structure on the face of this earth.

Question answered, case closed, no more debate needed? Forget it!
The fact is, these tv-towers I mention above are all supported by cables. So they are not free-standing. Cut the cables and they collapse! On top of that, these tv-towers are usually no more than steel antennas, with no public facilities whatsoever.

Now many people from Canada write me that these facts are the reason why it is impossible to compare CN Tower with these tv-towers. CN Tower stands tall by it self, and houses a restaurant, shops and an observation deck. CN Tower, so they say, is in an entirely different class than these tv-towers, and therefore can not be compared to them.

Now let us assume for a moment that we accept this thesis that the way of construction and the level of facilities are reason to consider one tower more or less significant than an other one. And that therefore these tv-towers shouldn't be listed in the same index as CN Tower.

If that is the case, one should admit that CN Tower can not be compared with buildings such as Sears and Petronas! Buildings like Petronas consist of about a hundred occupied floors! They house shopping malls, swimming pools, hotels, and offices for thousands of people! Their way of construction and their level of facilities is in a totally different class than CN Tower! So my point is, if, for the reasons as mentioned above, tv-towers shouldn't be listed in the same class as CN Tower, CN Tower shouldn't be listed in the same index as Sears and Petronas.

Wanne see a very weird claim for the tallest building in the world? Hold on, this one is really good...
