Shanghai skyline

The picture above shows what should be the Shanghai skyline in the year 2005. To be more precize, it's an image of the future 350 km2 Pudong area that is situated east of the Huangpu river. Pudong can at this very moment be seen as the largest construction site in the world, and it is rapidly changing in what could become the most powerful urban commercial district in Asia and perhaps the world. The tallest building in the picture is the 460 m (1509 ft.) Shanghai World Financial Center, now under construction, and when completed the tallest building in the world.

In the picture below you can see the Pudong area in 1990. At that point in time there was hardly any trace of modern building activity visible in this area.

According to the drawing above, there is no doubt about what role the Shanghai World Financial Center should play in the future Shanghai skyline; it will dominate all other towers in the area. See how it even dwarfs the 421 m (1381 ft.) tall Jin Mao Tower!
