Welcome !

TO SHELLEY'S HISTIO WEBSITE

Hello!

We are George and Mo. We live in the Netherlands and we have two Shelties (Shetland Sheepdogs). The reason for putting this homepage on the internet is simple. On September 5, 2001 we lost our Shelley to a disease called Malignant Histiocytosis. Now I know everybody thinks his/her dog is the most wonderful and beautiful dog in the world. And they are right! But our Shelley was really something special. She was a dog with a wonderful personality. Not only towards people and other dogs, but towards all creatures. She was fond of mice, frogs and birds and if necessary she would guard them. We witnessed her birth and her death and everything in between. She accompanied us on vacations throughout Europe and she was always there when we needed her to comfort us with doggy kisses. A true and loyal friend.

Besides the fact that she deserves not to be forgotten, we would also like to share the facts about the disease that killed her with you. We think we need to share our knowledge to help educate ourselves and improve the health of our pets. What better tool than the internet?

Help us fight histiocytaire diseases in dogs and cats!

Shelley's Histio Website (SHW) was primarily designed to increase awareness of histiocytic diseases in cats and dogs. The SHW study focuses on the identification of possible causes of histiocytic cases diseases in cats and dogs. I hope that the results of this study can help determine the frequency and/or potential triggers of histiocytic diseases. This can hopefully contribute to a faster diagnosis, new treatments and better palliative care.

Does your dog or cat have a histiocyticdisease such as malignant Histiocytosis or histiocytic sarcoma, or have you lost pet to histio, please complete the histio questionnaire and/or share your experience with us with a personal story. Please send your completed questionnaire and/or story to my email address.

Dogowners should report all cases of histio to the breeder and also to the breed club!

Be sure to seek the advice of your veterinarian about any question you may have
regarding your pet's health and behavior.
No diagnosis can be done without a veterinarian actually seeing and examining the patient.
