Adding an image to the top left or right of an article. When inserting an image into an article so that it appears at the left or right of the paragraph into which it is inserted, the image is not always where you want it to be. Particularly true when you want the image at the top of the paragraph. In theory you can drag and drop images, but the caption is often not dragged as well and the result is often a big mess. I do the following in order to get the image alignment where I want it. Basically it comes down to inserting the image after the beginning of the paragraph or sentence, removing text before the image, and putting it back after the image. 1. Assume the paragraph text is as follows: Gandhi called for complete independence by truthful and nonviolent means. He counseled that social change requires building the new society in the shell of the old, which he termed the constructive program. The nonviolence movement in the West has not emphasized this goal for the most part. In the United States, we mostly focus on political action, in particular on protest and civil disobedience. We do little organizing around what Gandhi thought was one of the most powerful political actions: non-cooperation with power, ănot against men but against measures.ä 2. In order to get the image at the top left or right of this paragraph, first place the cursor between the first and second letter of the second word of the paragraph, in our example, between the "c" and the "a" in "called." I.e., Gandhi c[cursor here]alled for complete independence by .... 3. Then insert the image at the cursor location, choosing either left or right alignment, i.e.: Gandhi c[image here]alled for complete independence by ... 4. Then place the cursor between the second and third letters of the second word, i.e.: Gandhi c[image here]a[cursor here]lled for complete independence by ... 5. Now I retype the first word and the first two letters of the second word at the cursor location, reconstructing the original sentence beginning at the new location i.e.: Gandhi c[image here]aGandhi called for complete independence by ... 6. Now place the cursor at the start of the text you just typed, i.e.: Gandhi c[image here]a[cursor here]Gandhi called for complete independence by ... 7. Backspace once to remove the unnecessary letter before the text you just typed, i.e.: Gandhi c[image here]Gandhi called for complete independence by ... 8. Now place the cursor between the first and second letters of the first word, i.e.: G[cursor here]andhi c[image here]Gandhi called for complete independence by ... 9. Backspace once to delete the unnecessary first letter, in our example "G", and press the DELETE key enough to delete the rest of the unnecessary text before the image, in our example, "andhi c", resulting in: [image here]Gandhi called for complete independence by ... 10. This should result in the proper alignment of the image at the top left or right of the paragraph. That's all. Quite often you can insert the image directly into the text at the top of the paragraph and get things aligned correctly immediately. But it appears that sometimes the image gets inserted just before or after an html tag that was not intended, and the result is not what was expected. The instructions above generally work if direct insertion does not work.
