Sporen kun je al doende verdienen,
maar je kunt ze ook voor anderen achterlaten.

Traces by Geert Rolf
This page is about the traces I made in the world, contributing to something or someone. At tech school I fell in love with computers and that’s what still is left.
Read more about My memories about IT in the 70s.
I think I managed to do a few things that are out-of-the-box. Writing down my story for anyone who may need it is essential. These notes are my traces.
My third job was at Océ R&D in Venlo. I got an idea and the patent department wrote the paper. My boss got mentioned first. With a typo in his name. Well, I’m not a lawyer. Talking about law: I got a genuine US Dollar paid for this apart from my regular salary.
At my return to the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Nijmegen I did software support for Chemistry and Physics. Here I got haunted by a fire breathing dragon for the first time. Transferring a students’ terminal room with 12 SUN IPC workstations and 12 SUN SLC workstations into a parallel computer that number crunched a neural network:

And now for something completely different: this is about the history of the village Winssen where I live:
De ene Otto is de andere niet! (dutch) about Otto van Gendt after whom the Van Gentstraat in Nijmegen is named.
De drie gebroeders Van Gendt in het rampjaar 1672 (dutch) about the three brothers Van Gendt from Winssen, who all three served the Dutch Republic back in 17th century.
This is all about the second time I was haunted by fire breathing dragons. This is about SEL-32, legacy computer systems by SEL, later GOULD/SEL. Read about its history in previous century and its revival in current century:
