Ellis Peters 1913-1995   Pseudonym of Edith Mary Pargeter. She was born in Horsehay, Shropshire. After school she was employed as a chemist's assistant. At the outbreak of the war she enlisted with the WRNS. Her first novel was an historical one. When her following novels proved to be unsuccessful, she turned to crime fiction. Her early mystery novels were published under different pseudonyms. She also continued writing historical novels. She is the creator of: 1. 'George Felse', a Detective Chief Inspector. 2. 'Brother Cadfael', a monk and amateur detective in Shrewsbury in 12th century England.
