Ruud van Helvert (drums)

Roosendaal,
Holland,
1964
Drummer Ruud Van Helvert, recently joining Triosonic, studied classical percussion and contemporary music and composition at the Tilburg and Amsterdam Conservatories. He co-founded the group Blast and collaborated in the production by that group at the CD entitled "Puristsirup". With Blast he toured throughout Europe, playing at numerous venues in France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and the former Czechoslovakia. Performances at "The Kitchen" in New York City and at Chattanooga, Tennessee, constituted a USA tour. Other groups for which he has performed as drummer include "Flank", the "Fuzzband", the "Ei-ensemble", "Bigband New Music", the Palinckx-project "De Wraak Van de Mummie" (The Mummie's Revenge), and "Sinew". He has performed numerous times at the BIMhuis in Amsterdam, on radio for VPRO's La Stampa in 1992, at the Tegentonen-festival in Rotterdam in 1993, and at additional jazz festivals in France and Germany.

Ruud Van Helvert brings pulse and color to Triosonic and his rhythmical approach often takes adventurous courses. He consistently maintains close contact in all layers of the music, with an ear for dynamics.
