Bare metal orc

Hi mum, it's me again, Hrugh. I'm writing you 'cuz today I'm finally gonna become a real orc! This guy here said he could turn me and the boys into a mob of real orcs, within 3 hours! I know you'll be ever so proud. Anyway, thanks for the nice warm woolies, and I'll write soon!
Oh, here's a pic of me waiting to get turned into a real orc. Notice the icky shiny metal colour and all.

Mum, just got sloshed with black enamel paint mixed with thinner. Eww, it reeks! Also, it washed all the greasy off me and left me all clean and icky. Not sure if I like this, mum.

See how black and menacing I look in this picture, mum? My face is getting painted a nice orkish brown (Vallejo Khaki Grey), and this paint doesn't reek, as it's a-cry-lic. He's painting right sloppy, got brown all over me armour and bonnet by the time he's done. Also, he's painting in only one colour, no highlights or anything. Duh, weird.
Clothes painted

Hi mum. The man's still painting sloppily, but at least me clothes and bonnet are now painted properly. There's still face brown on the armour, but at least me clothes are clean. I know, mum.. Not supposed to go outside in clean clothes and all, but the man said it will all be dirty again in no time at all.
Blacken all metals

Mum, think the black armour looks much cooler now. Almost look like a real tuff orc, in black and all. Sure took him long enough though - he was paying more attention here not to put black over my face again, I guess....
Da boss in black

... and here's a pic of Muchnutz, our boss. He sure looks mean, but he ain't all that bad. He's painted the same as me, and is waiting for the metal bits to get painted in metal!
Make the metal shiny

Mum, it's me again. Here's another pic of Muchnutz after his metal bits got painted in the right colour (Vallejo gunmetal). The man used a trick called dry-brushing here, using only a little paint so the paint would only stick on the raised bits. He mumbled something about it being 'moist-brushing' here, as there still was enough paint on the brush.
Add copper

Mum, what do you think of the coppah plates on me armour? All the girls say it looks nifty! It got painted in copper, then drybrushed in brass. Only we really tuff boys get it, the other just have metal plates. Cool, huh?
Paint details

After the metal bits Muchnutz and the rest of us then got de-tail-ed. No, nothing like cleaning the latrines, mum. It means the guy painted all the details on us, belts, teeth, shoes, and all. We still look really flat though, as it's all painted in one colour. Also, I'm starting to feel real unhappy being so clean.
Orc gets washed

Wowsa! Mum, we all got a nice good bath in some dark gunk! Starting to feel like an orc again. Have a look at Thickskull  getting washed - see the really big brush? It went really quickly. Oh, the gunk the guy used is a mix of two parts vallejo chestnut ink to one part black ink - diluted to taste with water.
'Clean' orc after washing

Mum, have a look at me, all nice and washed? Don't I almost look like a real orc now? See how the ink only stayed in the deeper bits, leaving them much darker than the higher bits? We now had some time to relax while we dried.
Highlighting the face

This was real icky. The guy gave us all make-up just like them elves! Ewww! Anyway, he took the same vallejo khaki grey, and painted the raised bits of our faces again.. To make them "stand out more", he said. It's just wrong, I tell you. At least it didn't take long, and we got to relax a bit, drying.
Drybrushing the figure

Mum, we're almost done! The guy took the really big brush again, and dabbed it in Vallejo Buff. He then wiped it clean real good, would have sworn the paint was completely gone. He gave us all a quick brush, and funnily enough it left paint on us, just like a bit of dust. Only on the raised bits, too. It adds "depth", he said.

And here's me, posing for a picture. I'm now a real orc and will be going out to "wreak havoc". This means I won't be able to write quite as often now, mum. But if you can send me some more woolies, that'd be nice. I'm sure they'kll get to us where ever we are.

Oh, here's Muchnutz again, yelling at us as always. But he's really not all that bad.

And here's the lot of us! Muchnutz in the middle,  Thickskull on the right, and me on the left. And it only took an evening to paint the lot (10) of us. The guy said he could do lots (20) of us in an evening, if  he wasn't taking pictures as well.
         Love, Hrugh.
