Vote for my glasses

NOTE: I have bought my glasses! You can of course view them in all their glory.

A fever has struck this country I live in: election fever. That is, the media and the politicians (as usual) want us to believe it has. With their usual arrogance they try to tell us what to think, how to live and especially how to vote. I offer you a way to vote for something that really counts. What am I talking about? Read on.

Introduction

I cannot choose. That can be a problem. I can fret for weeks over which trousers to buy or what food to eat. So you can imagine what kind of hell buying a new pair of glasses must be for me.

I have put off this task for years now. I still wear the same glasses I bought when I started wearing specs for the first time. (You can 'admire' the way I looked back then on my picture page. There is also a more recent photo available.) I cannot stand it any longer. My glasses are hopelessly out of date. Can you help me choose?

How

Further on you can find a voting form with five pictures of me, 4 with glasses and 1 without (presumably how I would look like wearing contact lenses). They are numbered 1 through 5. Below these photographs, you can select the number of the photo you wish to vote for. The form also offers you the opportunity to comment on what you see here.

If you cannot find what you like, there is also the option of doing it yourself: paint the glasses of your choice on my face. In order to do this, save the picture without glasses to a local disk and use a paint program (or whatever you need) to add glasses. Most browsers have a provision for saving elements of a page to disk. If your browser has a GUI (windows, buttons, etc.) then pressing the right mouse key when hovering with the pointer over the said picture might help you along. When you have saved the picture, mail it to me using the e-mail address you can find a couple of lines further on. I would really appreciate it if you would keep the picture as small as possible, preferably below 50 KB. You can achieve this by saving the picture in its original size using JPEG at 80% quality. Sometimes GIF or PNG yields a smaller file size. Please use one of these formats in that case. I will put up the best pictures on the page with the form. From then on people will be able to vote for these compositions also.

If for some reason you cannot use the form, please send me your vote through regular e-mail (collin@xs4all.nl).

Please consider that the page with the voting form on it has at least five pictures of 10 KB each. Meaning, that with a common modem connection it will take typically between 10 and 40 seconds before the page has loaded.

Now go to the voting form, please. Alternatively, you could vote for a glasses thought of by one of your fellow voters!

The first results are in!
