Exhibitions this year (1995)

March 31 -- June 25 In perfect harmony

Van Gogh regarded a canvas as finished only when it was framed: without a frame he saw it as in a rough state. Works which are still in an original frame designed by the artist are a rarity. They are the subject of the exhibition In Perfect Harmony.

May 19 -- August 27 Vincent van Gogh: his graphic work

Van Gogh's entire graphic oevre admittedly consists of a mere nine lithographs and a single etching, but is none the less important. He retouched many a print; thus the man we see in one version of A Digger, for instance, is a turf-cutter in the dunes, while in another he is portrayed as a peasant digging his field.

July 7 -- September 17 Maurice dennis

A special exhibition of works by this 'theorist' of the Nabis, who once said that a picture, before being a horse, a nude or some kind of anecdote, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order. The exhibition comprises some 80 paintings from the period 1889-1932

September 29 -- January 21 (1996) Franz von Stuck

This retrospective of Von Stuck's works gives a full review of his ouvre, The works on display will of course include his famous Sunde and Sfinx, both symbolic of the passions and also the dangers of love. Some sixty paintings, various sculptures, drawings, preliminary studies and a few designs for pieces of furniture demonstrate the versatility of this kunstlerfurst.
