Smart Gas Pockets Opportunities
The objective of SGPO is to research and promote the development of small gas reservoirs (pockets) in an environmental sound and cost efficient manner.
In the coming decades renewable energy sources will have a relatively small contribution to the growing energy demand.
Fossil energy will remain indispensable during this century. Natural gas produces the lowest CO2 emission per unit energy during combustion. Consequently natural gas consumption is likely to grow strongest, whilst renewable technologies are developed in parallel.
To enable the small gas reservoirs to be developed economically the neighborhood of an existing infrastructure such as a pipeline or platform is crucial. Reason why the gas pockets need to be developed as soon as possible prior to abandonment of the depleted larger gas fields. In the mean time the commercial production of electricity by turbines or gas engines on the well site is being investigated, i.e decentralized electricity production (verstromen).
CO2 as by-products will have to be dealt with in an efficient and environmental friendly manner. Research is progressing to dispose CO2 in depleted gas reservoirs or gas pockets.
SGPO B.V. is the shareholder of Smart Gas Pockets Development B.V. that is a shareholder of Smart Energy Solutions B.V. This Company recently applied for a production license containing a small gas discovery.
