ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - DOOR Tridents on Friday-evening won 8-5 vs. Amsterdam Pirates 2 to move into a tie for third place with Mr. Cocker HCAW 2, which lost 5-4 to unbeaten leader Sparta/Feyenoord 2.
Tridents held a 5-1 after two innings, but couldn't take more distance and saw Pirates come back to 5-4 in the seventh, making it an interesting and attractive game. In the home of the seventh, Tridents then decided the game with a 3-run rally.

But it was Pirates that opened the score with a run in the first inning. Roeland Henrique led off with a single off starter Paul Cornelissen, which was followed by a throwing error allowing the runner to go to second base. Henrique then advanced on a grounder to second and scored on a grounder to short by Sebastiaan Visser. Short stop Anthony Vrolijk threw the ball to home, but no play could be made. Lindell Finsey followed with a single, but then two outs followed.

The lead was shortlived, as Pirates' first defensive inning was a little bit unsecure. In their first at bat, Tridents reacted with three runs. Pirate-starter Michael Kramer had some early problems with his control and walked lead-off hitter Anthony Vrolijk, who then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Next, Jonathan Martina also walked. Vrolijk then scored the tying run on a passed ball and Martina moved on a stolen base, before Jonathan Kopra reached on an infield-hit, which was followed by a throwing error, enabling Martina to score the go-ahead run and Kopra to reach second base. Two flyouts followed, but then Kopra scored when Erik van Dorp doubled.

In the second inning, Friso Arkenbout and Ingemar Rooyer led off with singles, then moved on a sac-bunt by Anthony Vrolijk. The bases were loaded when >Jonathan Martina walked, followed by an RBI-single by Jonathan Kopra. Hereafter, starter Michael Kramer was relieved by Roy Beems, who was greeted with a sac-fly by Andy Leer to make it 5-1. But Beems did fine for Pirates, as he allowed only two batters to reach base through the sixth inning after taking over. In the third, he walked a batter and in the fourth he gave up a single, but was then supported with a double play and retired eight batters in a row, before Tridents came back to decide the game with three runs in the seventh inning.

Pirates reached base four times in the second, but failed to score. Wouter van Ginneken had led off the at bat with a single, but later was caught stealing. In the fourth, Mitchell Koot led off with a walk, but also was caught stealing. But in the fifth, Pirates came back with a run. Roeland Henrique led off with a walk, then two errors were made on force play-grounders to load the bases. But Pirates scored only once, on a sac-fly by Lindell Finsey, as two outs followed hereafter.

After leaving two more runners in the sixth, Pirates narrowed the deficit to only 5-4 in the seventh inning. Sebastiaan Visser led off with a single, followed by a double by Lindell Finsey. But then Mischa Visser struckout and Mitchell Koot grounder out, but this last play gave Pirates a run. Paul Cornelissen was then relieved by talented pitcher Sint Clair White, who gave up an infield-hit to Wouter van Ginneken, which produced a run. The inning then ended with a groundout.

In the home of the seventh, Tridents scored three runs. Sergeď Leon off with a hit by pitch, then stole second, moved on an one-out single by Jonathan Kopra and scored in double-steal situation. With Kopra on second, Andy Leer also singled, then Mike Bazuin followed with a sac-fly. A single by Erik van Dorp then made it 8-4.

Pirates added another run in the eighth inning, but left a runner on third base. Roy Beems, who started the game as the designated hitter, led off with a single and Roeland Henrique walked. The two moved on a sac-bunt by Reuben Moore, then Beems scored on a grounder by Sebastiaan Visser, but another grounder ended the at bat. In the ninth, Pirates got two runners on with two outs, but they also stranded. Pirates left 13 runners behind in this game.
