The first three innings of the game remained scoreless.
Initially, the game didn't start that well for DSS.
Pioniers-starter Lars Huijer gave up lead-off singles to Mark Smit and Lex Leijenaar in the first inning, but both runners were eliminated moments later.
Smit was picked off second base, then Leijenaar was forced out on a grounder by Mitchell Koot and a flyout ended the at bat.
Starting with the flyout, Huijer retired seven batters in a row.
DSS-starter Jorn van Ingen was initially not assigned to start this game.
Timo van Lingen was named to start, but he was scrubbed, as he was still bothered by a jet lag after returning earlier in the week from the States, where he participated in a tournament with an European All Star Team.
The team participated in the USA Baseball 17U National Championships in Florida.
During this tournament, American players get an opportunity to be considered for the 17U National Team Development Program.
The players (coming from Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands and Slovenia) in the MLB Europe Team were selected from a group that participated in MLB development programs such as MLB European Elite Camp and MLB Academies Spring Tournament.
Van Ingen pitched five good innings.
In the first three at bats, he allowed only two batters to reach base.
In the first, he gave up an one-out single to Dirk van 't Klooster and in the second, he walked Kevin Dirksen with one out.
But he also struckout four batters in the first three frames.
DSS opened the score with three runs in the fourth at bat.
With two outs, Ryan Miner singled and scored the first run when Tino van Erk followed with a double.
After Levine Gabriëls was hit by a pitch, the two runners advanced on a wild pitch, then both scored on a single by rookie Tommy van de Sanden to make it 3-0.
After being retired in order in the fifth and sixth inning, DSS added five more runs in the final three at bats.
In the seventh, Levine Gabriëls led off with a double, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Tommy van de Sanden and scored on a grounder by Shane Boeree.
In the eighth, the score was lifted to 5-0.
With one out, Lex Leijenaar singled, which brought in Sedley Karel as reliever for Huijer.
He was greeted with a single by Mitchell Koot.
A double-steal then failed, as Leijenaar was caught stealing at third base.
Hereafter, Ryan Miner walked, then Tino van Erk followed with a runscoring single.
Three more runs were added in the ninth inning.
With one out, Sven Jongejans doubled and Joffrey Heus singled, then Mark Smit drove the ball into centerfield over the head of Kevin Dirksen.
He was today's centerfielder, filling in for regular centerfielder Danny Rombley, who started a 3-game suspension.
Jongejans and Heus scored easy, then, while the ball was thrown back towards home, Smit continued running and also scored to complete an inside-the-park-homerun.
This not only was Smit's first big league-homerun, it also was the first homerun hit by DSS on the highest level.
With that, DSS increased its lead to 8-0.
Trailing 3-0, Pioniers left two runners in the fourth and another one in the fifth.
In the sixth inning, Tim Halderman took over the pitching for Van Ingen.
Halderman was named as starter for Sunday's Game 3, but now, with a 3-0 lead, he was used in relief.
In his first three innings, the righthander gave up only one basehit, while striking out six batters.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, now trailing 8-0, Pioniers scored its two runs.
With one out, Kevin Dirksen walked, then, with two outs, Taylor Clemensia hit a 2-run homerun.
For Clemensia, this also was hit first big league-homerun.
Hereafter, Pioniers got two more runners, but a comeback-grounder then ended the game.
