HAARLEM (Neth.) -
Corendon Kinheim handed Vaessen Pioniers its third loss in a makep-up game on Tuesday-evening to complete a 3-game sweep.
At Haarlem, Kinheim won 10-3 after the team also had won on Saturday and Sunday.
The scheduled first game on Thursday was stopped by fog, then rained out the next day.
With the win, Kinheim moved into a first place-tie with DOOR Neptunus and UVV, who also won their first three games of the season.
With this game, the Opening Series of the 2013 season was completed.
In the first three innings tonight, it appeared that Kinheim was en route to a quick 7-inning, 10-run difference score, but the scoring became less after the team had gained a 8-0 lead in the fourth at bat.
In the home of the first inning, Kinheim rallied for four runs off of starter Kevin Miner.
He walked lead-off hitter René Cremer, who then stole second base and opened the score on an one-out double by Ramiro Balentina.
A single by Jeffrey Arends then made it 2-0.
With two outs, Quintin de Cuba and Roy Seltenrijch both walked and with the bases loaded, Rachid Engelhardt followed with a 2-run single to lift the lead to 4-0.
Two runs were added in the second inning when René Cremer and Dirk van 't Klooster singled and respectively scored on a grounder by Balentina and double by Arends.
That marked the end for Miner, who was relieved by Dennis Buring.
Later in the at bat, the bases got loaded, but Buring finished with a strikeout.
In the third, Remco Draijer led off with a triple and scored on a grounder by Van 't Klooster.
And in the fourth, the eighth run was scored by Mervin Gario, thanks to a single by Engelhardt.
Kinheim-starter Nick Veltkamp struckout the side in the first inning, then added two strikeouts in the next at bat.
He gave up a single in the third and fourth inning, then Pioniers rallied for three runs in the fifth inning to narrow to deficit to 8-3.
Kevin Dirksen led off with a single, then Chris Williams was hit by a pitch with one out.
Zerzinho Croes and Mark Duursma followed with RBI-singles, then a force play-grounder by Danny Rombley led to the third run.
Vince Rooi followed with a single to put runners on first and third base, but another force play-grounder then ended the inning.
In the remaining three innings off of relievers Pim Walsma (7th and 8th) and Dion Steijl (9th), Pioniers collected only one more basehit, while the Kinheim-defense turned two double plays.
Leading 8-3, Kinheim added two runs in the seventh inning off of Daley Paalvast.
Rachid Engelhardt was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a single by Remco Draijer.
Engelhardt was then unable to score on a force play-grounder by René Cremer, but then did score on a grounder by Dirk van 't Klooster.
A double by Ramiro Balentina then made it 10-3.
