Pirates wins big again; Neptunus beats tough ADO

BUSSUM / THE HAGUE / ROTTERDAM / HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - After winning 21-1 on Friday-evening, L&D Amsterdam Pirates again won big on Saturday vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW, but this time it was 'only' 12-2. DOOR Neptunus, which suffered a surprise loss on Friday-evening, almost was left empty-handed again today, as it failed to hold a 7-0 lead and saw it being turned in to a 10-7 deficit vs. AamigoO ADO Lakers, but then came alongside and won 12-10 in the last at bat. Corendon Kinheim shutout Sparta-Feyenoord 7-0 and UVV was beaten 5-4 by Vaessen Pioniers, failing to get closer to fourth place.



At Bussum, Amsterdam Pirates initially trailed 1-0 again, just as the day before, but like then, it was only briefly. On Friday-evening, Amsterdam went on to score 21 runs, today 12 runs were scored. The league-leader collected 17 basehits, including three by Wesley Connor, Roelie Henrique, Kenny Berkenbosch and Rashid Gerard. Bas de Jong contributed with four RBI's, while Gerard batted in three runs and remained the leading hitter of the league.

HCAW opened the score in the second inning on a single by former Pirate Seb Visser, but in the third at bat Amsterdam rallied for five runs. A single by Roelie Henrique tied the score, then a sac-fly by Percy Isenia, 2-run double by Bas de Jong and a single by Kenny Berkenbosch then made it 5-1.

Leading 8-2, Amsterdam added four more runs in the eighth at bat when De Jong added another 2-run double. Singles by Rashid Gerard and Bas Nooij then increased the lead to 12-2.

Winning pitcher Ben Grover struckout six batters and gave up five hits in the seven innings he pitched.



At The Hague, Neptunus scored its first run in the first inning, then rallied for six runs in the second at bat. Two walks and an error loaded the bases, then singles by Rafaël Jozefa and Raily Legito (2-run) led to three runs and a pitching change. But, with one out, a single by Dwayne Kemp, sac-fly by Rien Vernooij and double by Benjamin Dille produced three more runs and made it a 7-0 score.

ADO Lakers got one run back in the its second on a single by rookie Tim Schaareman and then stunned everyone with an 8-run rally with two outs in the third inning. A single by Rudy van Heydoorn, basesloaded walk for Remco Seitzinger and 2-run single by Schaareman gave ADO four runs and brought in new pitcher Bobby Carrington, who took over for Kevin van Veen. But the scoring continued, as Gregory Hassell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then two errors produced two more runs and a single made it a 9-7 lead for ADO Lakers. In the fifth, ADO added another run.

But in the sixth inning, Neptunus came alongside. A single by Dwayne Kemp led to a run, but also an obstruction-call which gave Neptunus another run. A fielding error on a grounder by Rien Vernooij made it a 10-10 score.

After ADO Lakers left the bases loaded in the eighth inning off new pitcher Jorian van Acker, Neptunus scored twice in the ninth inning to take a 12-10 lead. A throwing error first made it 11-10, then a single by Shaldimar Daantji made it 12-10 in favor of Neptunus, which was outhit 15-12 in this game, which lasted almost four hours.



At Rotterdam, Kinheim shutout Sparta-Feyenoord 7-0 and outhit the team 14-8. Starter Nick Veltkamp gave up six hits and struckout six in seven innings, then relievers Todd Van Steensel and Pim Walsma each gave up one more hit in the next two innings. Kinheim collected 12 basehits off starter Elton Koeiman and saw Niels van Weert and Remco Draijer hit three basehits each, with the latter hitting a single, double and triple. Rachid Engelhardt hit his first big league-homerun.

Kinheim scored its first two runs in the second inning on a 2-run single by Roy Seltenrijch, then added a run in the third when Draijer led off with a triple and scored on a 2-out single by Mervin Gario. A double by Van Weert in the fifth and a sac-fly by Engelhardt in the sixth lifted the lead to 6-0. In the next at bat, Kinheim scored again, this time on a single by Ramiro Balentina.

Sparta-Feyenoord stranded eight runners, including two in scoring position.



At Hoofddorp, Pioniers broke an 1-1 tie with four runs in the seventh inning and went on to win 5-4.

Pioniers took an 1-0 lead in the second inning, but UVV came alongside in the third.

In the seventh inning, a single by Zerzinho Croes gave Pioniers a renewed lead. With the bases loaded, Jeroen de Haas took over the pitching for UVV-starter Orlando Yntema and began with a strikeout. But he then walked Norbert Lokhorst to bring in a run, then a single by Mark Duursma made it 5-1.

In the eighth inning, UVV got three runs back thanks to singles by Danny Rombley (2-run) and Giovannie Samboe, but also left two runners behind.
