Amsterdam wins; Wednesday to decide 2nd finalist; Euro Stars, PSV need play-off
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM / HAARLEM / BUSSUM / VLEUTEN / CAPELLE a/d IJSSEL (Neth.) - On Tuesday-evening, August 30, L&D Amsterdam Pirates won 3-2 vs. DOOR Neptunus to set up an all-decisive final game of the Play-Offs to be played on Wednesday in Amsterdam. The winner of the Wednesday-game will qualify for the Holland Series, that opens next Saturday in Hoofddorp.

Corendon Kinheim shutout Vaessen Pioniers 6-0 in a game which had no value at all, as it had no influence for both first and second place. In another game that didn't needed to be played, Mr. Cocker HCAW won 12-3 vs. ADO in the Play-Downs, while the match-up between UVV and Sparta-Feyenoord was canceled because of field-conditions at the site in Vleuten. The game was re-scheduled for Wednesday, but this also is of no influence for this series.

A game of more importance was played in Capelle a/d IJssel, where Euro Stars met RCH-Pinguïns in the 'Overgangsklasse'. Before the weekend, Euro Stars was in first place, but then lost 3-0 on Saturday PSV, which therefore shared first place. The latter then lost 2-0 vs. Tex Town Tigers on Sunday, while the game of Euro Stars rained out. This was re-scheduled for Tuesday-evening. When Euro Stars had won the game, it would gave won the championship in the 'Overgangsklasse' and therefore would have qualified to meet ADO in the best-of-five Promotion/Relegation Play-Off. However, Euro Stars lost 9-3 to RCH-Pinguïns, meaning they still share first place with PSV. As a result, Euro Stars and PSV now will play an one-game Play-Off on Wednesday-evening on the site of Sparta-Feyenoord in Rotterdam. The winner then meets ADO in the opener of the next Play-Off on Thursday-evening in The Hague.

DOOR Neptunus vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
At Rotterdam, Rob Cordemans returned to the mound for L&D Amsterdam Pirates after being sidelined the last few weeks with a hand-injury. The veteran righthander dominated again, as he did througout the season, striking out 10 batters and pitching seven-plus innings.

Amsterdam came on the board immediately in the first at bat when Sidney de Jong and Bas de Jong hit back-to-back doubles with two outs off Kevin Heijstek.

In the sixth inning, Amsterdam increased the lead to 3-0. With one out, Bas de Jong singled, then Vince Rooi followed with a 2-run homerun.

Neptunus hit only four basehits off Cordemans in seven innings, but then scored its first run in the eighth at bat. Sape Wagenaar then led off with a single and scored on an one-out double by Dwayne Kemp. Hereafter, closer Jurrian Koks was brought in and he retired the next two batters.

In the ninth inning, Neptunus scored its second run. With one out, Tom Brice singled, then Rien Vernooij walked and Benjamin Dille followed with an RBI-single. With runners on first and second, Koks struckout Sape Wagenaar, then the game ended when Shaldimar Daantji hit a force play-grounder.

And so, the final game of the Play-Offs on Wednesday will decide whether Amsterdam or Neptunus will be the second finalist.

A double by René Cremer and a grounder by Jason Halman led to the final runs in the seventh inning.

Mr. Cocker HCAW vs. ADO
