 HCAW ends losing streak; Cordemans impressive

Mr. Cocker HCAW came back from a 3-0 deficit to win 5-4 vs. Corendon Kinheim on Thursday-evening, winning their second game of the season and ending an 8-game losing streak.
With the score tied at 3-3, HCAW scored twice in the eighth inning.
Venezuelan Moises Levi Melendez Izaguirre was brought in to close the game for HCAW and pitch the ninth inning.
The lefthander gave up a run, but earned a save.
By bringing Melendez into the game in relief, it means he cannot start Game 3 on Sunday, which he was scheduled to do.
When foreign pitchers throw in relief in a series, they are not eligible to start in the same series.
Also the other way around, when a foreign pitcher starts, he is not eligible to throw in relief.
At Rotterdam, veteran pitcher Rob Cordemans had an impressive outing for L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. Sparta-Feyenoord.
The righthander threw eight innings in which he struckout 18 (!) batters and gave up only three basehits.
The 18 strikeouts are the most by any pitcher this season.
Amsterdam led only 2-0 after eight innings, then rallied for four runs in the ninth to win 6-0.
Vaessen Pioniers won 5-4 vs. ADO.
Pioniers led 5-1 after eight innings, but then ADO scored three runs off two relievers, but ended up empty-handed again.
DOOR Neptunus won 4-3 vs. UVV.
Neptunus held a 4-0 lead after six innings, then UVV scored once in the seventh and twice in the ninth, but lost its fifth game in a row.
For Neptunus, this was their eighth win in a row.
Jeffrey Arends (Neptunus) and Danny Rombley (UVV) homered in this game.
Vaessen Pioniers vs. ADO
At Hoofddorp, Vaessen Pioniers broke an 1-1 tie in the sixth inning, then scored twice, added two runs in the seventh, gave up three in the ninth, but went on to win 5-4.
ADO-starter Nick Martin struckout seven batters in the first five innings, but also gave up a run.
Initially, ADO opened the score in the top of the second inning off starter Conrad Orman.
In that at bat, Bas Mol led off with a walk, reached second base safely on a throwing error on a force play-grounder by Jarreau Martina, stole third base and scored on a sac-fly by Remco Seitzinger.
Pioniers came alongside in the third nning.
With one out, Jefferson Muzo reached on an error, stole second base and advanced when a throwing error followed, then scored on a single by Michael Duursma.
ADO then left a runner on third base in the fifth and another one in the sixth.
After giving up Duursma's single, Martin retired seven batters in a row, but then the lefthander gave up a lead-off single to Jefferson Muzo.
He was then forced out on a grounder by Michael Duursma.
After the latter had stolen second base, Mark Duursma walked, then an error was made on a force play-grounder (with two outs) by Nik Gumeson, which led to a run.
A single by Dè Flanegin then made it 3-1.
Pioniers added two runs in the seventh inning.
Kevin Dirksen and Zerzinho Croes led off with singles, were awarded the next base on a balk and both scored on a 2-out single by Mark Duursma, which led to a pitching change.
ADO came close to tying the score (or do more) in the ninth inning.
Jean-Paul Gulinck took over for Orman, but saw the bases being loaded quickly when Jarreau Martina and pinch-hitter Jan Baldee singled, then pinch-hitter Enrique Tromp walked.
A single by Irving Redan and sac-fly by Gyenuar Lopez then led to two runs.
Gulinck was relieved by Dave Draijer, but he was greeted with an RBI-single by Jaïr Roseburg, that made it a 5-4 score.
Next, Harvey Gumbs fouled out, but then pinch-hitter Raynard Doran walked to load the bases again.
But then the game ended when Bas Mol grounded out.

UVV vs. DOOR Neptunus
At Utrecht, DOOR Neptunus scored early in the game for a change to take a 4-0 lead after four innings, but then stopped scoring in the remainder of the game.
In several previous games this season, Neptunus did the majority of its scoring in the last four innings.
Tonight, the Rotterdam-squad gave up three runs in the last three innings, but went on to win 4-3 and register its eighth win in a row.

In the second inning, Jeffrey Arends led off for Neptunus with a homerun, then Dwayne Kemp doubled, but he stranded at third base.
In the third at bat, Neptunus added two runs.
Shaldimar Daantji led off with a single, then Eugène Kingsale followed with another one.
The two advanced on a sac-bunt by Benjamin Dille and a sac-fly by Raily Legito then made it 2-0.
Next, the bases were loaded when UVV-starter Orlando Yntema walked Jeffrey Arends and Dwayne Kemp and gave up another run when he also walked Rien Vernooij.
But Neptunus then left the bases loaded when Eldrion Regina flied out.
Neptunus made it 4-0 in the next inning when, with one out, Shaldimar Daantji doubled and scored on a 2-out double by Benjamin Dille.
In the remainder of the game, Neptunus added only two more basehits, one off reliever Juri van Leeuwen in the eighth, the other off reliever Sedley Karel in the ninth.

Neptunus-starter Diegomar Markwell gave up three basehits in the five innings he pitched and allowed only one runner to reach third base.
In both the fourth and fifth inning, the lefthander picked off a runner from first base.
In the sixth inning, Australian Craig Anderson took over, retired the side, but then gave up an one-out homerun to Danny Rombley, the first this season hit by a player from UVV.
The homeruns by Arends and Rombley were the first big league-homeruns hit on the new site of UVV.
Rombley's homerun was the first big league-homerun by a player of UVV since Bob Shannon hit one on June 19, 1988 vs. OVVO off Jerry Lowe in Amsterdam.
Fred van Groningen Schinkel, who was the Home Plate Umpire tonight, was the 1B Umpire 23 years ago when Shannon homered.
Shannon also hit the last home homerun for UVV on June 7, 1988 vs. Amsterdam Pirates, which he did off Lloyd Todman.
In the eighth inning, Berry van Driel became the new pitcher for Neptunus, gave up a lead-off double to Glenn Romney, who was later forced out.
Van Driel was then supported with a double play to end the at bat.
In the ninth, closer Arshwin Asjes was the fourth pitcher for Neptunus, but gave up two runs to UVV that narrowed the deficit to 4-3.
With one out, he gave up a single to Jirka Bliek, followed by back-to-back doubles by Rutger Veugelers and Danny Rombley, with the latter accounting for two runs.
Rombley then advanced on a grounder by Fausto Álvarez Rizo, but with the tying run on third base, the game ended when Asjes struckout Giovanni Samboe.

Sparta-Feyenoord vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates

Amsterdam opened the score in the first inning off starter Ruderly Manuel when Roelie Henrique led off with a triple and scored on a sac-fly by next hitter Vince Rooi.
In the second inning, the team had two runners on base with one out, but then a flyout and strikeout followed.
In the fourth, they left the bases loaded.
In this inning, Percy Isenia led off with a walk and Bas de Jong followed with a double, but the next two batters fouled out.
A walk for Koen Nooij then loaded the bases, but three runners stranded when he was forced out on a grounder by Rashid Gerard.
In the fifth, Amsterdam added its second run and the same duo accounted for it.
Roelie Henrique led off with a single and scored on a following double by Vince Rooi, who later stranded on third base.
In the next three innings, Pirates left four more runners off Manuel, who was relieved in the ninth inning.

Maikel Berghmans took over for Sparta-Feyenoord.
With one out, he gave up singles to Vince Rooi and Sidney de Jong, which also led to an error and a run.
Next, Percy Isenia walked, then Bas de Jong followed with a 2-run double to make it 5-0.
Berghmans was relieved by Rudy Seebus, who gave up a single to Bas Nooij, then a sac-fly to Seb Visser, before the inning ended.
Sparta-Feyenoord reached base only three times in this game, all off Amsterdam-starter Rob Cordemans.
The righthander struckout 18 batters, then closer Jurrian Koks retired the side in the ninth, adding two more strikeouts, meaning players of Sparta-Feyenoord struckout 20 times in this game.

Next, Roy Seltenrijch singled to bring in Jozefa and make it 3-0.
Kinheim-starter David Bergman allowed only three batters to reach base in his first five innings.
In the second, Bergman gave up a lead-off single to Lennart Koster, but he was then forced out.
After having retired seven in a row, Bergman ran into problems in the sixth.
First, lead-off hitter Adrian Anthony walked and advanced on a sac-bunt by Wesley Bernardus.
Bergman then gave up a single to Michael Pluijmers, followed by an RBI-double by Dirimo Enrique Chavez, an RBI-grounder by Lennart Koster and an RBI-single by Juan Miguel Gonzalez, that tied the score.
Bergman then struckout Randy Daal to end the inning.
The righthander returned to the mound in the seventh and retired the side, but a 'comfortable' 3-0 lead had vanished.

In the top of the seventh, Kinheim came close to re-taking the lead off new pitcher Kyle Ward.
Remco Draijer led off with a single, which was followed by a throwing error and a sac-bunt, which moved him to third base.
With two outs, Bryan Engelhardt was walked intentionally, then Ward ended the inning by striking out Jason Halman.
In the eighth, the Haarlem-squad left another runner on third base.
Rafaël Jozefa led off with a walk, then Ward struckout rookie Sven Jongejans (who had taken over the catching after Michel was ejected), but followed with a walk for Roy Seltenrijch.
The two runners then advanced on a sac-bunt by Björn Henrichs, but were left when a groundout followed.
In the home of the eighth, HCAW struck off new pitcher Patrick Beljaards.
The veteran lefthander walked Wesley Bernardus, then Michael Pluijmers reached on a bunt-single.
Bernardus then gave HCAW the lead by scoring on a single by Dirimo Enrique Chavez.
Pluijmers moved to third base on a double play-grounder by Lennart Koster, but only Chavez was forced out, while Koster was ruled safe on a close play at first base.
The latter was then forced out himself on a grounder by Juan Miguel Gonzalez, but also gave HCAW its fifth run.
Now leading 5-3, HCAW's Head Coach Bill Froberg decided to bring Venezuelan Moises Levi Melendez Izaguirre to the mound to seal the win.
The lefthander almost saw Kinheim come alongside.
With one out, he gave up a single to Dirk van 't Klooster, who then moved on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Bryan Engelhardt, who was replaced by pinch-runner Niels van Weert.
Another wild pitch brought Van Weert to second base and he advanced to third on a grounder by Jason Halman.
But Melendez then earned his first save when he struckout next batter Rafaël Jozefa to end the game and the losing streak.
