Caspian Gull L. cachinnans

This 1st summer Caspian Gull (surrounded by two 2nd summer Herring Gulls) was photographed in August 2003 by Rik_Winters at the Eemshaven in the north-east of the Netherlands. It shows the typical structure of this species. Note that 1st summer CG typically shows similar patterned and coloured 2nd generation scapulars and wingcoverts, giving it a rather uniform look. This bird still shows a juvenile lower tertial. From now on it will swap most of its mantle, scapulars, some median coverts and tertials for more adult-like feathers.
