Introduction

Rob

Welcome to my Productive Tips web site.

Personal Information Management (PIM) always had my special interest, during my more then 20 year career in the pharmaceutical industry. As project manager I work with scientists, legal people, contractors and many others disciplines, from all over the world. I always run a number of different projects in parallel.

Working with many different disciplines, nationalities, projects and having tight timelines is very interesting and challenging.

Over the years I have tried different methods to cope with the enormous information flow. Some of the methods I tried were copied from others, and some were developed to suit my needs. On this website I want to show you some of the techniques I have adapted or developed. I hope these examples are an inspiration for all those with the same desire to stay in control.

The techniques are explained in short (about 8 minutes) episodes on YouTube. The Productivity Tips website you are visiting now links to these YouTube films and furthermore gives transcripts of the episodes. (For easy printing.)

Episodes

  1. The first episode describes the use of Tracking Numbers in Personal Information Management. This system can be used to easily track related documents or find back documents you want use for future reference.
  2. The second episode demonstrates the use of a Pile-File a new way of storing paper documents in Personal Information Management. This system brings to together the best of ‘filing’ and ‘piling’ storage approaches.
  3. AutoHotkey is a free, open source macro-creation and automation software utility which allows users to automate repetitive tasks. In this episode I will illustrate the use of AutoHotkey for the generation of tracking numbers and finding back documents tagged with these numbers.
  4. There are many concepts I would like to share with you. In the Future Episodes section you can get a preview of the things to come. (Note: there is no Youtube film on future episodes, only brief descriptions.)
