The Region

Maison La Clochette is situated approximately 300 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Paris. and approximately 600 km (375 miles) from Calais/Dover.  Near the small pitoresque village of "Sommant" in the Saône et Loire departement you will find "Maison La Clochette". You can easily reach Maison La Clochette by car. The house is situated at the eastside of the hill "La Pucenière" (425m).

From the house/terras and the garden you'll find that you have a magnificent vantagepoint over the valley, the hills and the village of Sommant. By foot or mountainbike you can visit Sommant. In the nearby region there are lots of things to see and do: culture, hiking, swimming, biking etc. Undoubtedly you will enjoy the beauty of the direct surround of this typical french hilly landscape.




Burgundy - Morvan

Maison La Clochette is situated in "Parc Naturel Regional Du Morvan". This is a protected region of over 1700 km2 (700 miles2). The Morvan is part of Burgundy and is regarded as one of the most diverse landscapes of France. The region is well known for its rich history which is shown in countless monuments, villages and towns. Next to this Burgundy is ofcourse famous for its splenid wines. The wines are produced in chateaus and castles throughout the whole of Burgundy.

The space and relaxed atmosphere are also one of the characteristics of this region which already has to offer so much natural beauty. The old tradition of Burgundy are preserved here. The Morvan has a rich flora and fauna. The fauna in the Morvan  is a unique been unieke biotope for various birds (of prey) like hawks, buzzards, and many species of owls.

Recommended excursions
  • A visit to the historical/cultural roman town of Autun (ca. 12 km / 7 miles). Autun has to offer shops, terrasses, theatre, cathedral St.Lazare (12th century).
  • A visit to the lakes "Lac de Pannecière", "Lac des Settons" and "Lac de St-Agnan".
  • Dijon with its old houses and courtyards dated in the 15th century, Musée des Beaux-Arts.

  • The village Pommard which is known for its "caves" where wine is produced, Pommard is located near the town of Beaune.
  • The excavation of the Celtic town of Bibracte or visit the basilica "Sainte Madeleine" in Vèzelay.
  • The town of Saulieu has many small shops and restaurants and also a basilica.
  • La Route des Châteaux en Bourgogne du Sud. (castle-route)
