Between late May and early October, up to 100 Southern Right Whales gather at the Head of Bight. Banksia Adventures flies out to meet these magnificent sea creatures, but then we add even more! The first day starts with an early flight from Adelaide General Aviation Terminal and heads West towards the Great Australian Bight. Instead of just stopping at Ceduna, the Banksia Adventures flight will take the group all the way to the 'Head of Bight'. This provides a spectacular view of these 'Giants of the Nullarbor' from the air. The plane then lands at the Nullarbor Roadhouse, which is only a few kilometers away from the whales. The Banksia Adventurers will then join a tour that travels down to the viewing areas at the breathtaking cliff edge. When the whales are here in their splendour, many hours can be spent watching these magnificent creatures cavorting in the waters below (sometimes they are joined by huge sharks). If time allows, the tour continues on to explore some of the intriguing Nullarbor limestone caves. |
At the end of this memorable day, the plane departs for the untapped secrets of the Eyre Peninsula. The stop for the first night is at Streaky Bay, known amongst the local population for the Bay and it's fishing. Dinner will be with one of the local residents that night, but have an early night because there is a very special treat in store for tomorrow. |
On the second day, the group will travel overland a few kilometers to a place called Baird Bay. Joining the boat, the small private group will travel out to the inlet of the Bay. This magical spot is the home to the Australian Sea Lions and Bottlenose Dolphins. But now it's your turn to enter their world and swim with them. The inquisitive sea lions and aloof dolphins sharing their world with you is one of the truly awesome natural wonders of the world. As the afternoon draws on, it is time to re-board the plane and fly to Port Lincoln. This flight takes you along one of the world's most beautiful coastlines, and all seen from the comfort of your private aircraft. Port Lincoln is home to the Tuna Industry and the surrounding regions cultivate oysters, abalone and vineyards. Interspersed with this are rugged, scenic National Parks and historic settlements. The two days spent here will provide an opportunity to discover this region through a personalised guided 4WD tour as well as a sea-based tour to tuna farms and maybe even a spot of deep-sea fishing. |

Towards the end of the fourth day, the Banksia Adventures aircraft starts its engines again and this time heads for possibly Australia's most famous island - Kangaroo Island. An overnight stop here prepares for the fifth day, which consists of a personalised private 4WD tour for the group of some of the natural wonders of this island. These include visits to the habitats of seals and koalas and somewhere you might even see a kangaroo as well! At the conclusion of the island excursion, the adventure finishes with a flight back to Adelaide. Important Notes (apply to both 3 and 5
day events): |
*Dolphin swims are weather dependent * Chartered sea tour at Port Lincoln is weather dependent. If seas are rough, the deep-sea fishing component may be replaced with other activities. If the weather is not suitable for sea-based touring, the tour operator may substitute an alternative ground-based tour. |
