Salvatore Besso was the second son of Marco Besso (1843, Trieste - 1920, Milan) and Ernesta Pesaro Maurogonata (1854, Venice - 1914, Rome). His father was a director of companies and banks. Salvatore was a a writer and the foreign correspondent for the magazines "Rivista di Roma" and "La Tribuna". He travelled to the Far East and he died there in Beijing in 1912. He is best known for the posthumous publication of "Siam and China".
