George Heinrich Ayrer was the son of the Hofkonditor of Duke Bernard I of Sachsen-Meiningen. He studied law in Jena and afterwards he accompanied B. von Fostern at his grand tour to Holland, France and Germany. After his return he obtained a position as a tutor with Count Ludwig Siegfried Viththum of Eckstädt. In 1736 he was promoted at the University of Göttingen. He was appointed at the law faculty of the university. In 1768 he also became a Geheimrat (Privy Counselor). In 1769 followed an appointment as President of the Historical Institute. In 1773 he became a full Professor of Law. He died the next year in Göttingen. |
